Our Mission

The Nightingale Nurse Honor Guard is a coalition of volunteer nurses who honor those who have dedicated their lives to the nursing profession. Much like a military tribute, we provide a final, respectful recognition to departed nurses at the request of their families.

Our members travel to funeral services, memorials, and gravesites to perform the Nightingale Tribute. Dressed in the traditional pristine white uniform, cape, and cap, we stand as an honor guard, recite the tribute, and officially release our colleagues from their earthly nursing duties.

We serve our community entirely on a volunteer basis, ensuring that every nurse's dedication and compassion are remembered with dignity.

What We Do

  • The Nightingale Tribute: A solemn reading during the service honoring the nurse’s career.
  • The Final Call to Duty: A final roll call where the nurse’s name is called, a white rose is placed, and a chime is rung to officially release them from service.
  • Living Legacy Tributes: Honoring retired or terminally ill nurses with honorary recognition to show appreciation for their years of service while they are still with us.
  • Circle of Light Awards: We have the distinct privilege of visiting accomplished nurses directly at their places of work to present them with a special award, celebrating their incredible dedication.
  • Community Presence: Participating in professional nursing events, memorial services, and regional conferences.
